Protective Clothing - Enhanced Visibility Equipment For Medium Risk Situations - Test Methods And Requirements

This European Standard specifies requirements for enhanced visibility equipment in the form of garments, or devices, which are capable of visually signalling the user's presence. The enhanced visibility equipment is intended to provide conspicuity of the wearer in medium risk situations under any daylight conditions and/or under illumination by vehicles headlights or searchlights in the dark. This European Standard is not applicable to high-risk (as covered in EN ISO 20471/A1:2016) and low-risk situations. Performance requirements are included for colour and retroreflection as well as for the minimum areas and for the placement of the materials in protective clothing. This standard does not cover requirements for active lighting, e. g. LEDs.

Different types are defined:

 Type A

  for daylight (fluorescent material)

 Type B     

  for darkness (based on retro-reflective material)
  B1 (free hanging), B2 (over limbs)
  B3 (over torso or torso and limbs)

 Type C

  for daylight, half-light and darkness (fluorescent, retroreflective or 
  combined characteristics material

Minimum areas are required for each type.
